Repurposing older furniture is an easy way to create a new piece for your home, without having to be super crafty or handy and without spending a ton of money. If you don't have a piece of furniture that will work for the piece you want to create, garage sales, thrift store and even antique shops are the best place to find inexpensive older furniture, because you won't want to spend a lot of money on something you are going to “re-create”.
For a unique bench, a great piece of furniture to repurpose would be a classic headboard with a matching footboard. You will want to separate the headboard and footboard first so that you can assemble it into a bench the way you wish.
Then, you will want to reassemble the bench by creating new holes and even a new piece of wood in the front to hold the seats firmly and safely.
You can use any color milk paint you would like, but this project used a color called “Mason Jar Blue”, which comes in a powder form and is mixed with water to create that antique look, which milk paint does. For the seats, those are slats that were made of scrap would so that it looks older as well.
If the look is still not what you want, you can always sand it down and repaint it to get that antique look.
