Corner shelves are good areas to hold or display small and interesting items. You can install them in your living room to showcase your precious bric-a-bracs and other interesting curios that you have collected over the years. In your bedroom, they can serve as easy-access storage for your personal care items. The good news is that you won’t need to spend a lot to have these adorable corner shelves installed in your home. You can make one, or two, by yourself in just a few easy steps.
For this project, you will need:
- One 1″x2″ Board (frame material)
- One 1″x3″ Board (front shelf trim)
- One 3/4″ Plywood (shelf top)
- One 1/4″ Plywood (shelf bottom)
- One Wall Anchors (for mounting)
- 1 1/4″ or 1 1/2″ Finish Nails
Keep these tools handy:
- Circular Saw
- Miter Saw
- 3/16″ Drill Bit
- 1/2″ Drill Bit
- Tape Measure
- Hammer and Nail Set or a Finish Nailer
To make a 21” shelf, cut a 45-degree angle on one end of your 1″x2″ board, using a circular saw. Measure 21-inches down the length of the board, then cut the board again at a 45-degree angle. This will serve as the front of your shelf. Use this piece as the pattern for the other pieces of shelf.
Assemble the frame of your shelf, then paint it, as well as the top and bottom pieces together with the trim, with your desired finish or wood stain.
Once dry, mount it the shelf frame to your room’s corner walls using wall anchors. Attach the top and bottom of the shelf to the frame using finish nails. Then add a piece of trim to give your shelf’s front. To achieve an even and smooth look, touch up over the finish nails.
Repeat this process to create more corner shelves for your room.
