It was a typical workday for Rosalynd Harris, a waitress at Busboys & Poets restaurant in Washington DC. But something incredible happened by surprise. It was when she met five white Texan men wearing cowboy hats.
The men came to town for the new president's inauguration, while some days ago, the 2017 Women's March took place. Rosalynd supported the latter.
Obviously, Rosalynd and the Texan cowboys supported two opposing political standpoint. Hence, their encounter could have been awkward.
Nevertheless, the situation turned out into a least expected outcome. After the men left, what she read on the receipt surprised Rosalynd big time. She can't believe her eyes when she saw a tip amounting to $450! It was a tip for a subtotal of only $72.60.
There was also a note on the receipt that reads: “We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people. Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!”
Jason White, the man who left the tip and the note, emphasized the importance of treating others with respect and love despite the differences.
The Texan men's act of kindness suited well with the restaurant's theme and goal. Busboys & Poets is a socially progressive restaurant and artist's lounge that aims to inspire social change, transform the community and the world, and promote harmony in the society.
